SHANE MAKES CLASS B HIS OWN

Saturday's Bold Maring WP GTi Challenge races provided fans with a good deal of action as it ran in the reverse direction around of Killarney. And while it was Shane du Toit who put it on pole position, it was Jacques Geldenhuys’ Ferroli Golf 2that had it all to do with Class B championship leaders Peet van der Walt and Scotty Hayes missing the race. But it all went awry when Geldenhuys rolled his Golf out of turn 3, taking the oval starting gantry with him as the Golf ended percched on its nose to bring the Safety Car out…

THE FLIGHT OF BRYAN

Killarney's reverse-direction Bold Marine WP GTi Challenge races proved a great spectacle with close racing throughout, highlighted as usual by an almighty all-Golf 1 Class C scrap that produced a few surprises behind a race winner who confirmed the form book. The experienced Bryan Morgan made no mistakes to take full advantage of the absence of his principal rival Ebrahim Levy, when he put his Greatsoft Payroll machine on pole position and then drove off to a pair of easy wins. Teammate Jarred Simpson played wingman throughout, but there was a surprise as 15-year old Giordano Lupini put his Monroe/Bakkie…

BACK TO FRONT GTI CHALLENGE

If we told you that the Bold Marine Cape GTi Challenge was doing a reverse race this weekend, what do you imagine? Well, if you reckon that all the guys fitted five-reverse and one-forward ratios to their gearboxes and strapped giant rear-view mirrors to their cars … you’d be wrong. But they will race in the reverse direction at Killarney’s Saturday 18 June Power Series – in an anticlockwise direction, rather that clockwise where turn 5 becomes turn 1 and turn 1 becomes turn 5. Killarney also inserts a chicane in just after the pits (what would be just before…

JANO WINS, NIAN FLIES

A bleak, grey and cool winters day would never be enough to quell the spectacular action that the Bold Western Province GTi Challenge delivered as always in a weekend that never quite went to script as Jano van der Westhuizen took overall Class A, Peet van der Walt Class B and Bryan Morgan walked away with Class C honours. Qualifying saw Marco Busi on pole position in the Automan Jetta from the similar cars of old rival Chris Swart (Spongebob) and Class A graduate Mario Roux and Nian du Toit’s Cheaper Cars version after van der Westhuizen’s Kwikfix/Bessie Bester Motors…

JANO OVERCOMES CLASS A ATTRITION

Saturday’s Bold Marine Western Province GTi Challenge Class A action proved a race of attrition as several leaders ran into trouble through the day, of which Jano van der Westhuizen bounced back best to take overall honours for the day. Qualifying saw Marco Busi on pole position in the Automan Jetta from the similar cars of old rival Chris Swart (Spongebob) and Class A graduate Mario Roux and Nian du Toit’s Cheaper Cars version after van der Westhuizen’s Kwikfix/Bessie Bester Motors Polo was slowed by brake issues. Then du Toit’s blue Jetta suffered a fuel pump issue to come to…

FUELISH ISSUE COSTS GELDENHUYS

Saturday’s Class B Bold Marine action was highlighted by a miscalculation that ended Jacques Geldenhuys’ unbeaten run in the class The first race was more of the same and even better for Geldenhuys and the attrition in Class A attrition meant that Jacques’ fourth Class B win on the trot also saw his Ferroli Golf 2 onto the overall podium albeit just a tenth of a second ahead of the returning Shane du Toit’s similar car, with Peet van der Walt (PSW Sport Polo), Damien Lopez (Polo), Scotty Hayes (Jetta) and Eden Thompson (Golf 2) next up and Roelof Tolman,…

POSITIVE WEEKEND FOR LEVY, LUPINI

Ebrahim Levy and Giordano Lupini enjoyed a positive weekend in the third round of the Western Province 2016 Bold Marine Western Province GTi Challenge with both Garage 34 team’s Class C Golfs making a step forward following a less than successful weekend last time out. Fifteen-year old Lupini was delighted to score his first points with an impressive sixth overall in class for the day off a sixth place in the second heat, one position up on a more frustrating first race in the black and yellow #16 Monroe Racing South Africa/Bakkie & Car magazine Golf 1 GTi. Giordano started…

WP GTi Challenge returns from long break to thrill Killarney faithful There’s nothing like a long break in a racing season to ensure double the action on its return and that’s exactly the case with the Western Province GTi Challenge, which returns to thrill Killarney after a two-month break 14 May. And if the first two rounds were not spectacular enough, Saturday promises even closer racing with many competitors having burnt the midnight oil, tested, practiced and doubly prepared to close the gap to their class leading rivals and ensure an even greater thrills. GARAGE 34 LADS READY TO STEP UP

The second round of the Western Province GTi Challenge was hard on the Garage 34 Class C Golf team, but after a lengthy break from race action, the lads are doubly intent on making amends. Round 1 winner Ebrahim Levy and his #45 Jive Armien Levy Golf 1 GTi had a less than spectacular day last time out and despite crossing the line first in the second heat, Levy was penalised to end up seventh. “Things never went quite as planned last race,” Ebrahim admitted. “At least our woes lost us the success ballast we were carrying so we should…
