15-year old Giordano Lupini to take surfer extraordinaire Deon Bing on the racing ride of his life
Anyone who knows the Cape should know Deon Bing - the surfer dude whose splendid reports on the swells are so good on 94.5 KFM every morning that they make you want to slip out of that jam straight into the sea, no matter how cold the water is?
He’s the man who likes to surf Indonesia, Hawaii and the Caribbean, swim and run in the mountains and sip summer Sauvignons by the braai on a Weskus beach and he feels blessed to wake up happy and to share the good vibes with the folk on their way to the office.
But Bing is set for a completely different experience at Killarney’s Extreme Festival races Saturday 19 April, when he swaps his wetsuit and board for a race overall and helmet ready to be strapped into the Monroe Racing RSA GTi Challenge Golf and whipped around the track by fifteen year old Giordano Lupini as he competes in the day’s special spectator race.
“This should be different!” Deon relished on learning the news of his latest adventure. “This kid is not nearly old enough to have a driver’s licence but he’ll be my expert driver next weekend — I’m really looking forward to some quick laps with this young man in close company with other racing cars — it should be a really great experience…”
Young Lupini is also relishing the experience to chauffeur his learned passenger around Killarney at speed. “I’m quite nervous to have such a big name beside me to be very honest,” the Franschhoek Bridge House schoolboy admitted. “But I’m looking forward to making it a proper day for Deon to remember!”
You too can win a seat to be raced around the track by a top driver in a leading race car — the Killarney Spectator Race is open to anyone brave enough to want to be driven around the track in racing conditions. Drivers will however not be pushing 100% and but will be sure to best entertain their passengers and you can sign up either on the 94.5 KFM Facebook pages at www.facebook.com/KFMza/ and www.facebook.com/kfmbreakfast/, or on the Killarney Facebook page at www.facebook.com/killarneyinternationalraceway/.
Saturday’s program includes a full day of racing also comprising national championship rounds for Engen Volkswagen Polo Cup and Formula Ford amid the regular local classes with the spectator race middle of the afternoon.
See you at Killarney
