LEVY, LUPINI READY FOR CHALLENGE ACTION

Saturday 19 March sees the second round of the BoldMarine Western Province GTi Challenge highlighting on the Killarney Power Series bill and two the two Class C Golfs racing out of Garage 34 are ready and waiting for the action.

Ebrahim Levy who won the class in the opening round in the #45 Jive Ebrahim Levy AutoNews Golf 1 GTi a month ago, is looking forward to the weekend in spite of having to carry 20kg of penalty ballast following that success. “We get a present from the Challenge every time we win,” Ebrahim smiled. “They bolt a 20kg barbell under the passenger seat to try help the rest beat us!

“Still, we’ll be going flat out to win and we can use fresh rubber this weekend so it should balance out and I’m really looking forward to fighting for that lead.” GTi Challenge rules limit drivers to one new tyre per meeting but it is best to take two tyres every second meeting, which Levy will do on the weekend.

Should Levy win the first heat Saturday, he will be burdened with a full maximum 40kg success ballast penalty, but if he is beaten, the 20kg is removed — all in the interests of closest racing.

The lad on the other side of Killarney’s pit garage 34, fifteen-year old Giordano Lupini is looking double forward to the weekend ahead in his black and yellow #16 Monroe Racing RSA AutoNews RWJ Golf 1 GTI: “We have done a lot of work since the last race,” Giordano who stepped up to GTI Challenge from karting at the end of 2015 explained.

“Driving a saloon race car is a big step up from karts with the gears and the weight and the rest and it’s taken a bit of time to properly figure it all out, but I’m now much more comfortable in the car and I understand it far better. “More importantly, I now better understand what the car is doing so I can now better decipher what’s going on tell the team what I want from it.

“So I’m much happier with the set-up on the Monroe Golf - I can’t wait for Saturday and I hope to keep on progressing - bring it on!”
